Offered here is an original 7" x 9" photograph (mounted on an 8" x 10" matte) depicting Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire, taken circa 1894, shortly after the hospital’s opening. The image presents a sweeping elevated view of the early hospital complex, showing the distinctive domed pavilion structures and the central brick building set amid landscaped grounds and rolling countryside.
Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital was established in 1893 as a gift from Hiram Hitchcock in memory of his wife, Mary Maynard Hitchcock. This photograph appears to capture the campus in its earliest years, when the hospital stood prominently in a largely rural setting overlooking the Connecticut River Valley region near Dartmouth College.
The photograph measures approximately 7" x 9" and is mounted on an 8" x 10" matte board. No photographer is credited. Condition is good overall for its age, with visible wear to the mount, minor edge and corner wear, and a small missing section at the lower right of the mount. The reverse bears an ex-library stamp from Dartmouth College Library (Baker Library Archives) and a red “DISCARDED BY DARTMOUTH COLLEGE LIBRARY” marking, adding institutional provenance.
Authentic period piece related to family, historyor local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition.Vintage or Antique.
