$8.87

Antique color postcard of the First Presbyterian Church, Oak Park, Ill., published by the V. O. Hammon Publishing Co., Chicago, with the caption printed in red in the right margin. The view shows the fieldstone church with its red tile roof, square tower and arched entrances, framed by bare trees along the street. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Postally used in 1914; corner and edge wear, a small chip at the lower edge, light toning and a machine cancel over the sky area of the front.

The divided back carries the Hammon trademark and a green 1 cent Washington stamp tied by an Oak Park, Ill. machine cancel dated Feb 21, 1914. The message reads in part "Dear Friend: I haven't heard from you for quite a long while. What's wrong? Are all the young men at Wittenberg going to sleep?... Your friend, Arnold", addressed to Mr. George Stohe(?), Wittenberg.

A nice early Oak Park view for collectors of Cook County and Chicago-area history or Presbyterian church postcards. Related Items:
