1946 Vintage Press Photo by ACME.The Well-Rounded HomeThe upper diagram shows how air will circulate through the Fuller House in accordance with aerodynamic principles. Wind studies led to the design of the large ventilator, 18 feet in diameter, which rotates, always heading into the wind, changing the air inside every 6 minutes if desired. Fresh air enters through a duct system in the roof and beneath the house, which is suspended an inch off the ground. The flow of warm and cold air inside the house is fountain-like.
The bottom diagram shows the floor plan of the house. No provision is made for a garage. For a garage space, the central mass could be lengthened and the house raised to the desired height; the space between can then be enclosed. The house can be erected as easily as not over a basement, if one is desired.Dymaxion House (also known as the Fuller House), designed by the visionary inventor Buckminster Fuller. It is one of the most famous examples of futuristic, aerodynamic residential architecture.Photo is Dated: March 22, 1946.
