This rare antique lithograph depicts Peluse Falls, a striking waterfall featured in the U.S. Pacific Railroad Expedition & Surveys, specifically covering the 47th and 49th parallels. Peluse Falls is located in southeastern Washington State, near the confluence of the Palouse River and the Snake River. Published by Sarony, Major & Knapp at 449 Broadway, New York, and drawn by Stanley, this piece is Plate XLI from the General Report series dating back to the mid to late 1800s. The lithograph showcases intricate detailing of the falls cascading over rocky cliffs with two figures fishing in the foreground, providing a glimpse into 19th-century American exploration and documentation of the Western landscape.Measuring approximately 11 x 14 inches, this lithograph is printed on period paper showing typical age-related foxing spots and light edge wear consistent with its historical authenticity. The top margin bears the title and expedition details, while the bottom margin clearly labels the scene as "Peluse Falls." This piece is ideal for collectors of railroad expedition memorabilia, Western American history, or antique lithographs.
