Antique Civil War CDV Photo Album REGIMENTAL DRUMMER Soldier PIERCE Family 1860s:
$995.00
Up for sale is a remarkably rare, historically intact American Civil War-era family photograph album dating firmly to the 1860s. This album documents the interconnected Pierce and Medland families, making it a dream find for military historians, genealogy researchers, and advanced photography collectors.
Key Highlights:
Rare Civil War Regimental Drummer: Includes an extraordinary, crisp CDV portrait of a uniform-clad soldier posing directly with his military field snare drum, complete with rope tensioners and a protective fabric cover/apron.
Two Military Soldiers: Contains two additional distinct portraits of Union soldiers in regulation enlisted four-button sack coats/fatigue blouses. One is housed in an ornate, printed patriotic frame.
Format Variety: Housed within the album is a beautiful mix of standard paper Cartes de Visite (CDVs) and tiny Gem tintypes, including one set into an iconic, printed Union patriotic star border.
Genealogical Value: Crucial period pencil-written names are present next to several slots, including Flora Medland, Jan Pierce, Nat Mc Pierce, and matching soldier initials W.B.P.
High-Fashion Portraits: Features beautiful full-length and vignette portraits of Victorian women in early-1860s dome hoop skirts (crinolines), paisley/tartan shawls, and tiered silk day dresses.
Premium Hardware: The deeply embossed leather album retains all six of its original brass protective studs (bosses) on the front cover and features an incredibly rare, fully functional, ornate floral brass closure clasp with a central inset white stone accent.
Condition Report:
The outer leather binding shows expected, honest shelf wear and scuffing to the edges consistent with its 160+ year age, but remains completely stable. The internal pages are generally crisp with bright gold borders and minimal tearing around the slots. Faint, historic pencil dealer/lot markings are present on the inner pages. All photos are securely housed.
