Antique Wagner Ware # 10 Cast Iron Round Roaster Drip Drop Baster Dutch Oven Pot:
$365.00

A Sunday pot roast, a slow-braised supper, or a beautifully browned loaf of bread—this substantial antique Wagner Ware round roaster brings a century of American kitchen history to the table.

Made by the Wagner Manufacturing Company of Sidney, Ohio, this No. 10 cast iron roaster features the wonderfully distinctive “Drip Drop Baster” lid, with concentric zigzag rings cast into its underside. Both the pot and lid carry the No. 10 size marking.

An Ingenious Self-Basting Lid

Those striking rings beneath the lid serve a practical purpose. As steam rises from the food and condenses against the cover, the projecting zigzag edges provide numerous points from which moisture can drip back over the contents. The design was intended to distribute that moisture across the food rather than allow it simply to run down the sides.

The lid bears patent dates spanning 1917–1922, recording the development of this clever early self-basting cookware. Its domed profile leaves room above the food, while the cast handle, sturdy side ears, and swinging wire bail give the entire piece a handsome, purposeful appearance.

Made In Sidney, Ohio

Wagner began manufacturing cookware in Sidney in 1891, founded by brothers Milton M. and Bernard P. Wagner. Its name became closely associated with American cast iron cookware, and this roaster retains the recognizable Wagner Ware / Sidney -O- marking on its underside, along with “ROUND ROASTER” and the size number.

Dating approximately to the 1920s, it belongs to the era of family Sunday dinners, handwritten recipes, and cookware purchased for decades of service.

A Generous, Useful Size

At approximately 12¼ inches wide and weighing 16.23 pounds, this is a substantial piece of cookware. Its broad cooking area lends itself to browning meat before slow cooking, while the covered vessel is well suited to pot roast, chicken, braised beef, stews, baked beans, and bread.

The heavy cast iron retains heat well, making it particularly appealing for slow, steady cooking. Picture a roast surrounded by potatoes and carrots, or a crusty loaf lifted from beneath that beautifully marked 12¼" wide × 5⅛" tall

  • Weight: 16.23 pounds

  • No. 10 roaster with No. 10 Drip Drop Baster lid

  • Cast iron construction with wire bail used, pre-seasoned condition, with the dark finish and surface character of well-kept vintage cast iron.

    • Does not spin when tested on a marble countertop.

    • Only a very slight wobble—approximately one business card’s thickness.

    • A tiny chip is present on the interior lip of the lid; it does not affect the lid’s function. (see finger point pics)

    • Surface wear, casting texture, and variations in the seasoned finish are consistent with age and use.

    • Please examine the photographs for the markings, finish, and small lid-edge chip.

A handsome example of early Wagner cookware, combining collectible markings, an ingenious lid design, and a generous size that remains useful in today’s kitchen.
