The majestic courthouse, a fine example of Romanesque Revival architecture with its prominent clock tower, anchors the left side of the scene. The street is bustling with activity as numerous riders on horseback, presumably part of the parade, proceed down the thoroughfare. Onlookers line the street, engrossed in the festivities. Several classic cars are also visible, dating the scene to the mid-20th century. The clear blue sky and overhead power lines evoke the atmosphere of a vibrant American town. The reverse of the postcard explicitly identifies the scene as 'COURT HOUSE AND PUBLIC SQUARE' and 'Annual Sheriffs Posse Rodeo Parade' in 'DECATUR, TEXAS, "County Seat of Wise"'. A whimsical poem about being an 'Eighter from Decatur' is also featured. The postcard was photographed and published by Strukers' Western Fotocolor, Artist Photographers of Fort Worth, Texas, and is an 'Artischrome' type. Related Items:
