Huge 3.5" (90 mm) Phacops / Morocops Trilobite, Middle Devonian, Anti-Atlas, Morocco
A large, beautifully prepared phacopid trilobite with a colorful two-toned exoskeleton, resting prone on its original light-gray limestone matrix. This is a genuine, naturally preserved specimen, approximately 390 million years old.
Both schizochroal compound eyes are excellently preserved, with individual lens facets clearly visible in the close-up photos. Glabellar tubercles are also clearly visible. The thorax exhibits a nice ebony-to-chocolate gradient going from the left side to the right side. The cephalon exhibits shades of rust orange to chocolatey brown. The prep work is clean and detailed throughout.
Condition: There is a small gap between the second and third thoracic segments. There is a small patch of shell loss on the bottom tip of the nose (see pictures). I could not find evidence of restoration under UV light inspection. Some mounting putty residue on the bottom of the specimen. Comes with acrylic display stand.
