Meet the easier way to keep a sourdough starter happy! The Sourdough Sidekick handles the daily care for you, automatically feeding your starter flour and water — so you don’t have to remember! Thoughtfully designed by King Arthur and FirstBuild (a General Electric innovation hub) with a community of passionate bakers, the Sourdough Sidekick makes sourdough approachable for anyone curious to try — offering a low-lift way to start baking without having to worry about your starter. Whether you’re brand new to sourdough or just short on time, it takes the guesswork out of maintenance so you can focus on the fun part — baking!
Designed to make starter care simple, the Sidekick keeps your culture healthy, lets you plan feedings around your baking routine, and in Auto Mode, reduces the need for daily discard. In Auto Mode, the Sidekick can prepare the right amount of starter, ready right when you need it — up to seven days in advance. A connected mobile app allows for remote monitoring and sends alerts right to your phone, keeping you connected to your starter, no matter where you are.
Three modes give you the flexibility to bake the way you like:
- Auto: Perfect for beginners. Simply tell it when you want your starter ready and how much you need. It handles the feedings using a feeding method that keeps your starter active without the usual daily discard — for up to a week. All you have to do is bake!
- Ratio: For bakers who have a favorite ratio. Set your ratio and feeding frequency, and the Sidekick handles the rest, with alerts when it’s time to use or discard.
