Lot of 14 Antique 19th-C Point Pleasant Ohio Clay Pipes - Fresh Estate:
$525.00

Overview:

Offering a spectacular, fresh-to-the-market estate lot of 14 authentic 19th-century "reed-stem" clay tobacco pipes, all verified as Point Pleasant, Ohio production. This uniform collection was purchased together at a local estate sale in Fleming County, Kentucky, and represents an exceptional snapshot of historic Ohio River trade cargo.

Condition Note:

All 14 pipes are in completely unsmoked, "as-found" dug condition, with original local subsoil patina beautifully intact within the creases. They have not been scrubbed, bleached, or altered, preserving their full archival value. As is typical for authentic dug stock, they show honest age, including chipped rims and broken stem sockets from historical transit or burial.

🔍 Individual Item Breakdown (The Inventory)

This 14-piece hoard showcases the incredible diversity of molds and firing finishes used at the Clermont County, Ohio kilns between the 1860s and 1880s:

• 1 Rare "Turbanned Effigy" Gray Waster: A phenomenal, historic Civil War-era reduction-fired gray pipe. Features the iconic layered fabric head wrap. A classic factory "waster" showing minor mold asymmetry.

• 1 Salt-Glazed / Slip-Washed Brown Indian Head: A beautifully preserved variant with a smooth, glossy, mottled-brown exterior finish that makes the face details pop.

• 12 Point Pleasant Effigy & Geometric Trade Pipes: A fantastic assortment of the factory's core production models, including multiple variations of the forward-facing Native American chieftain profile with vertical feather headdresses, alongside plain-collared geometric variations. Displays a beautiful array of natural kiln finishes, from warm terracotta orange to smoky charcoal black
