Pilot Vanishing Point Fountain Pen, Metallic Orange, 18K Broad Nib
The original retractable fountain pen. A click of the knock extends the nib and a second click retracts it behind a spring-loaded trap door, so it lives in a shirt pocket like a ballpoint. Pilot has been refining this design since 1963 and nobody else has matched it.
This is the discontinued Metallic Orange finish: a deep shimmering burnt orange over brass, paired with blackened trim throughout. Clip, nose cone, centre band and finial are all black, and so is the nib, which is Pilot’s blackened treatment rather than anything aftermarket.
Nib: 18K gold, stamped 18K750 <B>. Pilot’s own blackened finish. Broad in Japanese sizing, which lays roughly a 0.5 to 0.6mm line and reads closer to a Western medium than a Western broad. Smooth, wet and firm, with no spring or flex, which is normal for this nib.
Filling: Takes Pilot proprietary cartridges or the included Pilot twist converter. Please note it accepts the CON-40 or CON-50 only. The larger CON-70 does not fit a Vanishing Point.
Included: pen, converter, original Pilot presentation box and outer carton with the factory label.
Condition: Excellent used condition. The knock is crisp and positive, the nib extends and retracts fully, and the trap door closes correctly. No cracks or dents. Finish is clean with no brassing at the clip or nose cone. Nib tines are aligned, tipping is intact and unmodified.
