RARE Great Forepaugh Circus Trade Card Roman Hippodrome Chariot Race Avil Litho:
$48.95
Dimensions: 4.25x6This is an authentic, original 19th-century Victorian circus trade card and courier handbill advertising "The Great Forepaugh Show" and its "Real Roman Hippodrome" attraction. The front features a highly detailed, colored lithograph by the Avil Printing Co. of Philadelphia, depicting a dramatic four-horse chariot race under the banners "Rousing Roman Races" and "Hippodramatic Displays." The reverse side is a fully printed promotional flyer using bold, mixed Victorian display typography to detail the show's massive $300,000 budget, its custom half-mile racetrack, and a roster of 104 lady charioteers, gladiatorial knights, and active jockeys.Condition Note: This piece is in good antique condition. The front lithograph retains strong, rich coloration and excellent detail. The card demonstrates honest indicators of age, including typical edge wear, rounding at the corners, light surface smudging, and an old pencil notation ("50") on the upper right corner of the reverse side. Please examine the high-resolution images carefully to verify the exact cosmetic state prior to purchase.
