Up for sale is a fantastic piece of Chicago financial and social history. This is a vintage 1920s metal "book savings bank" issued by The Northern Trust Company (located at the northwest corner of La Salle and Monroe Streets, Chicago).What makes this particular bank incredibly rare and collector-grade is that it includes the original, fully intact interior passbook ledger tucked inside.Historical Details:Account Holders: Grant C. Russell & Ruth RussellAccount Number: 224669 (matches the stamped number on the outer cover)Timeline: Active entries run from May 21, 1930, through April 8, 1931, documenting a fascinating look at a family's financial habits at the onset of the Great Depression. The ledger shows frequent $5 and $10 survival withdrawals, culminating in a massive final cash deposit of $335.00 in April 1931!Condition:The bank is in honest, vintage condition. The outer textured brown paper shows expected shelf wear, edge scuffing, and minor paper loss near the spine binding (please see photos). The interior ledger pages are incredibly crisp, completely legible, and beautifully stamped by the bank tellers.
