# Rare Antique 44-Star American Flag (Wyoming Era, Dated 1890)## Exceptional Folk Art "Staggered" Star Variant – Double-Appliqué & Hand-Worked Eyelets
Up for sale is a spectacular, museum-grade piece of late 19th-century American history. This authentic 44-star U.S. flag dates precisely to 1890, celebrating the admission of Wyoming to the Union. This short-lived 44-star configuration is highly sought after by Americana and militaria collectors due to its scarce 5-year production window.
### UNIQUE COLLECTOR KEY DETAILS:* **Eccentric Staggered Star Grid:** Unlike standard uniform commercial grids, this flag features a highly unusual 8-7-7-7-7-8 pattern. The 7-star rows dynamically step back and forth, with the bottom two rows distinctly left-aligned to the centerline.* **Double-Appliqué Sewn Construction:** The heavy cloth stars are individually sewn onto BOTH sides of the blue canton using a distinct concentric dual-layer zig-zag stitch (an outer edge zig-zag paired with an inner pentagon pattern). The blue field is double-stitched securely to the stripes, which feature clean single-stitch hemming.* **Maritime / Station Cotton Hoist:** A heavy white cotton canvas header runs exclusively along the left side. It features heavily stitched, hand-worked buttonhole eyelets designed for rope-lashed ship rigging or military pike attachment.* **Original 1890 Lanyard Remnants:** The bottom buttonhole features a period-correct brass reinforcement grommet containing the incredibly rare, original, moth-eaten red cloth lanyard/elastic tie-down strips still threaded through it.* **Original 1890 Dated Inspector Tag:** Includes an intact factory cloth tracking tag pinned to the flag stamped with contract numbers "9857 / 106 / C". The reverse side of this original tag features the handwritten year "1890", definitively dating its production to the launch of the 44-star configuration. The canvas hoist also retains its original factory inspector alignment stamps ("G + 19" with an alignment cross) and faded master-cutter initials on the reverse hem.
### DIMENSIONS:Measures exactly 105 inches long by 60 inches wide (Standard 5' x 9' Naval Storm / Station dimensions).
### CONDITION REPORT:Offered in 100% original, untouched, and unrestored condition. The delicate, semi-translucent field fabric shows honest historic storage wear, featuring approximately 100 scattered moth holes of varying sizes (ranging from 1/4" to over 1"). Notably, the moth damage cleanly stops right at the heavy left cotton hoist, proving the organic nature of the historic wear. The canvas hoist and its original buttonhole loops remain exceptionally strong and sturdy. No modern repairs, patches, or alterations have been made, preserving its full historic integrity for archival custom framing.

The tags and markings are assumed to be original. Please see the photos to determine their authenticity. They are very hard to read and I've done my best to identify them, but I'm not 100% sure what they read. Related Items:
