$74.99
Measurements:
Approximately 29.5" x 21.5"
Description & History: This is a stunning, authentic piece of Eastern European folk textile art with direct family provenance. It was entirely hand-stitched in the classic "redwork" style by the seller's great-grandmother around the late 1800s.
Historically, this piece was cherished as an Easter basket liner (Veľkonočný košík), used to wrap and shield the traditional foods brought to the church on Holy Saturday for the priest’s blessing.
Features & Imagery:
Inscription: Hand-embroidered text reads "Majko božja štiti nas!", a regional Slovak dialect phrase translating to "Mother of God, protect us!".
Central Image: A beautifully detailed depiction of the Sacred Heart of Jesus surrounded by floral stems and classic folk cloud patterns.
Finishing: Accented with an original light blue fabric trim border.
Condition: In beautiful antique condition for its age (over 100 years old). The embroidery thread remains incredibly vibrant with crisp linework. No major rips or tears. Please review the high-resolution photos closely for exact cosmetic condition. There are a few faded spots on border as shown in photo but the main panel is excellent. Item has been stored in acid free tissue paper, as it will be shipped in as well. Perfect for collectors of Slavic folk costume textiles (Kroj), religious linens, or rustic European folk art!
