Vintage RARE Joe St. Clair Santa Claus with Green Toy Bag - Controlled Bubble Sulfide Paperweight - Stamped JOE ST CLAIR on Bottom
Offered is a highly collectible and increasingly hard-to-find Christmas sulfide paperweight by the legendary Indiana glassmaker Joe St. Clair (Elwood, IN) - Santa Claus carrying his sack of toys, encased in a full controlled bubble dome.
DETAILS:
• Artist/Maker: Joe St. Clair, Elwood Indiana - The most famous American sulfide paperweight maker
• Mark: Clearly stamped JOE ST CLAIR on polished base - guaranteed authentic
• Subject: Santa Claus sulfide - hand-painted in classic Christmas red with white beard, black boots, carrying a large light/mint green toy sack
• Ground: Sits on a white pillow cushion under a full dome of perfectly controlled air bubbles - the signature St. Clair technique that makes the bubbles sparkle like falling snow
• Glass: Crystal clear, heavy, brilliant - no chips, no cracks, no bruises, no fog.
• Dimensions: Approximately 3.5 tall x 3 w - classic St. Clair paperweight size.
• Era: 1970s-1980s St. Clair Glass - from the golden era of Indiana paperweights
CONDITION: Excellent vintage condition. Paint remains vivid and bright - Santa's red suit and green bag are unfaded. Bubbles are all intact and brilliant. A true collector piece, not a damaged shelf piece
WHY THIS ONE IS SPECIAL:
Most St. Clair Santas were made without the bag or with a white bag. The green bag version with controlled bubbles is considerably rarer and was a special Christmas issue. Christmas sulfide collectors actively hunt for this exact combination. You will not find another like it easily.
This paperweight displays beautifully - the bubbles catch the light and the green bag pops against Santa's red suit. Perfect for a St. Clair collection, Christmas paperweight collection, holiday mantel, or as a heirloom Christmas gift that will never go out of style.
