Pair of antique stereoscopic color glass photographic plates depicting Margaret Graham (Carmichael) Wheelock (1875–1952), prominent New York City fashion designer and co-founder of Farquharson & Wheelock.
Margaret and her sister, Jessie Farquharson, established the successful couture fashion house Farquharson & Wheelock around 1906. The firm operated on prestigious Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and became known for dressing wealthy members of American high society. Among its notable commissions was the wedding gown worn by Cornelia Vanderbilt in 1924.
Margaret was married to William Addison Wheelock and was also the aunt of Mary Graham Carmichael Marvin, a first-class passenger and survivor of the 1912 RMS Titanic disaster.
These two stereoscopic glass photographs originate from the historic Wheelock-Buchanan family estate collection.
