Rare Vintage Elk JAN BARBOGLIO Double Hammered Charger Plate Bobeches Set of 12:
$999.00
A spectacular and difficult-to-find 12-piece vintage Jan Barboglio hammered iron tabletop collection, consisting of six oversized 14” chargers and six coordinating approximately 6.5” candle plates.
The large chargers are quintessential early Jan Barboglio: dramatically hand-hammered iron with a richly variegated black, rust, brown and copper-toned finish. Each charger features an applied metal plaque depicting what appears to be an animal motif associated with Barboglio’s earlier rustic tabletop designs.
The centers have an extraordinary mottled, almost organic finish, while the heavily hammered borders retain the irregularity and character expected from Barboglio’s hand-worked iron pieces. No two are precisely identical.
The six smaller approximately 6.5” hammered iron pieces coordinate beautifully with the chargers. Based on their size, form and Barboglio’s documented early use of small iron underplates for oversized Mexican candles, these appear best suited as candle plates / candle underplates, rather than conventional salad or appetizer plates. They make a striking centerpiece when used beneath pillar candles while the 14” chargers anchor each place setting.
The complete collection includes 12 pieces:
* 6 oversized hammered iron chargers — approximately 14” diameter
* 6 coordinating hammered iron candle plates — approximately 6.5” diameter
The chargers bear the distinctive applied animal plaques, and Jan Barboglio maker markings are present as photographed.
The combination is particularly beautiful for a rustic Mexican hacienda, Spanish Colonial, Western ranch, Southwestern or Old World table setting. The iron, deep patina and animal imagery make these equally compelling displayed when not in use.
These are older, pre-owned handcrafted pieces and show the character expected from aged iron: variations in patina and coloration, oxidation, surface marks, scratches and wear. Some underside protective pads show wear or loss. They have intentionally not been polished or aggressively cleaned, preserving the wonderful aged surface.
Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
Sold only as the complete matching collection of twelve.
