FABULOUS EXTRAORDINARY split pair specimen ofTampa Bay Coral : AWESOME BOTRYOIDAL STALACTITIC FORMATION of fossil coral pseudomorph( chalcedony quartz after(replacing)coral skeleton calcium carbonate( limestone) from The Suwannee River, Florida.
Many of these specimens get replaced with translucent & colored chalcedony i.e. agate.These specimens are found in The Tampa Bay Area ( Ballast Point in the Hillsboro Bay area).
The age of these specimens is approximately 38 to 25 MILLION YEARS OLD (Oligene- Miocene Period)!!!
For fluorescent mineral enthusiasts, the specimen also fluoresces under both long wave ( Last 3 photos) and short wave UV light ( Photos 1,18 - 21 ).The specimen also displays a bright phosphorescence upon withdrawal of the SW lamp ( Please see photos 1,19-21).
Please note special UV lamps are required to visualize any fluorescence. SW photos taken with Super Bright lamp, Long wave with 36 watt Way Too Cool lamp.
