Description:
Up for sale is a fantastic, cohesive archive of 15 original vintage black-and-white snapshots documenting an incredible international voyage aboard the famous Los Angeles Steamship Company (LASSCO) flagship, the SS City of Los Angeles.
Measuring approximately 4 1/2" x 2 3/4", these crisp personal travel photos document a rare, extensive itinerary that spans both northern coastal waters and tropical South American ports. There are no handwritten notes or stamps on the reverse sides.
Key Highlights in this Archive:
Ship Identification: Confirmed by multiple clear indicators, including a sailor posing with the official canvas SS City of Los Angeles life ring and clear stencils on Lifeboat No. 15 ("204 CU FT 20 PER.").
Geographic Range: Includes stunning mountain views from a summer Alaska cruise excursion alongside historic 1920s street-level views of Santos, Brazil (featuring Rua General Câmara, Joalheria Montandon, and period automobiles).
Onboard Social Life: Candid portraits of male passengers in period-correct attire (fedoras, flat caps, wide trousers) socializing on the docks, a spectacular birds-eye view of a packed crowd enjoying the assembled on-deck canvas seawater swimming pool, and a charming snapshot of the ship's deck cat.
Condition: Good vintage condition with light, age-appropriate wear. Excellent contrast and historical clarity. Perfect for maritime collectors or collectors of early 20th-century travel photography. Sold as a complete lot of 15.
