2. The Vintage Mentalism Effect: Syl Reilly’s "Mental Pictoria" (c. 1940)If you specifically remember the word "Pictoria," you are likely thinking of a very clever mentalism routine created by magician S.W. Reilly in 1940.• The Effect: The performer introduces a deck containing 30 simple, completely different picture cards. Three different spectators each freely select a picture card and keep it entirely hidden. There are no forces, glances, or secret peeks. The mentalist picks up a drawing pad and a black crayon, concentrates on a spectator, and begins to draw. When the drawing pad is turned around, the mentalist has exactly reproduced the spectator's hidden picture.VINTAGE MAGIC C1940 SW REILLY MENTALISM PICTORIA CARDSThis is Syl Reilly's original version of his Mental Pictoria effect which is an astounding effect for both spectators and magicians (most of whom are no longer familiar with the effect). Contained in the deck are 30 simple picture cards and every single card is different and ungimmicked. Each of the three spectators selects a different card and keeps the card well hidden from the performer (there are no forces or glimpses of the spectator's selections) the performer picks up a tablet and black crayon and looks at one of the spectators and begins to draw on the tablet. When the tablet is turned the performer has reproduced the drawing exactly. This is repeated with another spectator and then the final spectator with each of the three drawings being reproduced exactly. There are no short cards, long cards, double-faced cards, flap cards, or rough and smooth principles in use and the performer can be across the room when producing the drawings. This is a phenomenal effect in the mind of the spectator and Syl's version appears more natural since it is on plain card stock rather than later versions which used playing card stock. The deck is complete in its original hallmarked box and instructions for the effect.Make sure you click on our store icon. Thousands of rare and vintage items up for sale in our store.
