charming, authentic matching pair of vintage mid-century anthropomorphic puppy dog figurines. Made in Japan during the 1950s/1960s, these adorable canine figures feature the highly collectible, textured "sugar-glazed" or "sugared" porcelain coats.
Both figurines showcase classic mid-century kitsch styling with oversized, expressive eyes, hand-painted details, and sweet pink accents on their paws, ears, and tongues. One puppy is playfully posed on its back, while the other is in a sweet crawling stance.
Stamped "JAPAN" in red ink on the bottom base of the porcelain.
These figurines are in beautiful vintage condition. The hand-painted facial features are bright and crisp. Because sugar-glaze texture is incredibly delicate, there is very minor, expected shelf wear/granule shedding consistent with age, but no major cracks, or repairs. The “sweet crawling stance” pup’s mouth flower has top/bottom flower petals chipped, but no other chips appear visible.
Approximately 2.5 inches long. Tape Ruler shown in images for scale reference only.
