Vintage 1970s J.L. Cobb & Son McLeansville NC Excavating Plastic Promo Cup Mug:
$79.00
Up for sale is a rare piece of North Carolina grading and excavation history: a Vintage 1970s Promotional Plastic Advertising Cup/Mug from J.L. Cobb & Son Excavating, based out of McLeansville, North Carolina.
This classic retro promo mug features crisp, bold vintage typography detailing the local earth-moving operation. It serves as a fantastic time capsule from the mid-century commercial boom of the Piedmont Triad area. Made from durable, hard promotional plastic typical of the 1970s, it makes an excellent addition to any regional advertising collection, vintage construction display, or local North Carolina history archive.
Historical Significance
J.L. Cobb & Son Excavating represents the deep-rooted history of multi-generational, family-owned utility, grading, and demolition contractors that helped shape the infrastructure of Guilford County during the mid-to-late 20th century. Operating out of McLeansville, NC, the Cobb family legacy remains an active part of the local landscape today. The business evolved over the decades and continues to serve the community under the family lineage as A.L. Cobb Wrecking & Grading Company on Huffine Mill Road. Finding surviving plastic promotional ephemera from local mid-century grading operations like this is highly uncommon, making it a wonderful piece of North Carolina construction Americana.
