Charming matching pair of vintage Edna Oar Young Shadowdancer ice-skating shelf sitters, dating to 1986.
This set features a male and female winter skater with hand-painted faces, fabric clothing, long articulated-style legs, and boots fitted with metal ice skate blades. Their long legs are designed so the figures can sit along the edge of a shelf, mantel, or similar display.
The female wears a red and black checked hooded winter outfit with a cream-colored muff and white ribbon accents. Her companion wears layered burgundy and plaid clothing with a dark scarf and bright red mittens.
One figure is signed “Young ©86,” dating the pair to 1986.
The original Shadowdancer informational hangtag is also included. The tag describes Shadowdancers as primitive country figures inspired by early American shadow-casting toys and states that Shadowdancer figures were hand-cut and hand-painted sheet metal figures dressed in fabric.
These make a wonderful display for collectors of Edna Oar Young, Shadowdancer folk art, primitive Americana, vintage shelf sitters, or winter and Christmas décor.
Condition
Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related wear consistent with handmade pieces from 1986. The fabric clothing shows light surface lint/fuzz, loose fibers, and general wear from age and display. Painted and metal components shows minor surface wear.
The original Shadowdancer paper hangtag is included and shows age-related discoloration, spotting, and wear. Both figures are signed “Young ©86.”
