$249.95

Wonderful vintage Li’l Abner newspaper/comic-strip printing plate featuring artwork by Al Capp, still mounted to its original wooden printing block. This is an actual printing-production piece, not a modern decorative reproduction. The metal relief image and lettering are mirror-reversed so that they would print correctly when inked and pressed onto paper. Traces of old blue printer’s ink remain on the plate—a great bit of its working history. The scene features several wonderfully eccentric Li’l Abner characters and dialogue concerning a mysterious “demon” that has been created and then stolen. The plate includes the LI’L ABNER title and Al Capp copyright identification within the printing image. The reverse retains the substantial wooden mounting block. A sawtooth picture hanger was added at some point so the block could be displayed on a wall.Details: Vintage Li’l Abner printing plate; metal relief plate mounted on wood; approximately 7¼ inches long (please refer to photos for exact measurements); likely mid-20th century; visible remnants of old printing ink and expected wear from age and use. This is not original pen-and-ink comic artwork. It is an original production printing plate/block made to reproduce the comic artwork in print.A terrific piece for a collector of Al Capp, Li’l Abner, vintage comics, newspaper history, printing blocks, letterpress, comic-strip art or printing ephemera.Condition: Vintage used condition with age-related wear, discoloration, old ink and surface marks consistent with its original function. The printing plate remains mounted to the wooden block. Please examine all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description. Related Items:
