This is a beautiful matching pair of vintage Mid-Century Modern ceramic cat bookends. Made in Japan during the 1950s/1960s, each figurine features a charming black-and-white stylized cat in a playful arched-back stretching pose, standing atop a glossy burgundy book base. The faces are highly expressive with hand-painted blue eyes and orange accents inside the ears and mouth. Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or post-market repairs, showing only typical minor factory glazing irregularities characteristic of the era. Authenticity is fully verified by an incised "Made in Japan" stamp on the hip, as well as a stamped ink mark on the unglazed hollow-cast base.
