Vintage Eagle Pencil Co 798 Easel-Set 12 Wood Crayons Clowns Circus Original Box:
$34.99
Vintage Eagle Pencil Company No. 798 “Easel-Set” containing twelve wood-cased colored pencils in its original illustrated circus-themed cardboard package.
This is an especially colorful example of Eagle’s ingenious Easel-Set packaging. The front depicts a lively circus scene with an elephant, giraffe, tiger wagon, clown and performer beneath the slogan:
“MOST COLORFUL SHOW ON EARTH!”
The reverse continues the circus theme as the “MAIN ENTRANCE,” with a ticket booth, creepy clown, children waiting to enter, and even a small “WATER FOR ELEPHANTS” bucket. The packaging itself folds open into a built-in easel/display stand.
The package is marked:
EAGLE
12 COLORS EASEL-SET
12 WOOD CRAYONS FOR SKETCHING & MAP COLORING
No. 798
Eagle Pencil Company • New York • London • Toronto
Made in U.S.A.
The built-in easel feature is still present and can be opened to support the package for display. Instructions printed on the back explain how the ticket-window flap is pulled down to lock the easel in position.
Condition: This set has considerable age and handling wear, but remains wonderfully displayable because of the strong original circus graphics. The cardboard shows edge and corner wear, surface rubbing, creasing, fraying, paper loss, worn folds, and separation or weakness at several seams and edges. The upper flap has noticeable paper loss, particularly toward the upper right corner. There is additional wear around the pencil opening and along the sides of the carton.
The cardboard has softened somewhat with age and should be handled carefully, particularly when operating the easel mechanism. No restoration or reinforcement has been added.
Despite the shabby condition, the artwork remains bright and appealing, all twelve pencils are present, and the original easel construction survives. It is an excellent display piece for someone who appreciates vintage graphic packaging as much as the pencils themselves.
Please examine all photographs closely, as they show the exact condition and are an important part of the description.
A great piece for collectors of Eagle Pencil Company, vintage colored pencils, circus memorabilia, antique school and art supplies, graphic packaging, advertising, or vintage paper engineering.
