Vintage Hawaii Kai Polynesian Restaurant Bag Tiki NYC Goodfellas Bamboo Lounge:
$39.98
This vintage paper takeout bag is from the iconic Hawaii Kai Polynesian Restaurant, once located on Broadway between 50th and 51st Street in New York City. Operating from the early 1960s through the late 1980s above the Winter Garden Theatre, Hawaii Kai was a famous Times Square tiki destination that later gained cinematic immortality as the interior filming location for the "Bamboo Lounge" in Martin Scorsese's classic film Goodfellas. The bag features striking mid-century tiki graphics printed in black and orange on tan kraft paper, complete with the restaurant's vintage Plaza 7-0900 phone number and "World's Greatest Polynesian Restaurant" slogan. Manufactured by Guild Paper Products Co. in the Bronx, the bag measures approximately 10.5 inches tall excluding the twisted paper handles. Please note that this fragile piece has been stored pressed completely flat beneath heavy books for an extended period; attempting to pry it open into a three-dimensional standing bag will likely cause tears or structural damage to the aged paper. It is being sold strictly as a flattened piece of ephemera with typical signs of age, including natural creasing, fold wear, and a distinct vintage discoloration spot near the bottom center, making it an excellent candidate for a matted or framed display.
