Sharon Steel's roots extend to the Sharon Steel Hoop Company. The company formally changed its name to Sharon Steel Corporation on March 10, 1936. During the 20th century it became a significant steel producer with operations associated with the Shenango Valley and the Farrell/Sharon area.
The history maintained by the present-day successor operation states that Sharon Steel owned the Farrell, Pennsylvania plant for almost the entire 20th century until its shutdown in 1992. Operations included blast furnaces, melt shops, hot and cold rolling, pickling, annealing and galvanizing, producing numerous sheet and strip steel products.
The actual manufacturer of this badge itself is not marked, so I would identify Sharon Steel Corporation as the corporate issuer rather than claim that Sharon Steel physically manufactured the badge.Country/Region of Manufacture: United StatesEstimated Release Date / Age
Estimated era: Mid-20th century, most likely circa 1950s-1960s, possibly extending into the early 1970s. This was my Dad's badge and he worked there from the late 1940's until the early 1970's!
The Sharon Steel Corporation name provides a broad historical boundary beginning in 1936, and the Farrell operation continued under Sharon Steel until its 1992 shutdown. Based on the typography, construction, pin hardware and overall design, a mid-century date is the most defensible listing estimate.
