Vintage mid-century Atlanta JOURNAL newspaper delivery cylinder. :

The Atlanta Journal began publication in February of 1883 as an afternoon paper, competing with the city’s existing morning paper the Atlanta Constitution. The upstart gained significant readership in its first year when it scooped its rival with news of Atlanta’s nationally known hotel, the Kimball House, being destroyed by fire. Surely this box doesn’t date back to those earliest years but it dates back to a time when the “paper boy” didn’t just throw the paper into the yard. This would have been mounted on a post alongside the mail box at the street. While the mounting bracket is steel, the cylinder itself is aluminum which would imply post WWII manufacture. Certainly there’s a mid-century home owner somewhere in Atlanta who would like to have this genuine and fairly rare item. Related Items:
