[ The 110th Machine Gun Battalion was a vital combat element of the famous 29th "Blue and Gray" Infantry Division during World War 1. Formed at Camp McClellan, Alabama, the battalion was composed of highly trained National Guard units primarily originating from Maryland, Virginia, and New Jersey.Arriving in France in the summer of 1918, the 110th Machine Gun Battalion provided devastating defensive and offensive heavy weapons support during the brutal Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Fighting through treacherous terrains, heavily fortified concrete bunkers, and dense gas attacks, the unit saw intense front-line action right up until the Armistice. This specific belt buckle was commissioned after the war through the elite Stieff Silver Company as a high-end commemorative piece awarded to or purchased by veterans who survived the campaign. It stands as a profound testament to the bravery of the 29th Division machine gun squads. ]
