WWI German Ersatz Bayonet All Steel Split Muzzle Ring Hooked Quillon 1914-18:
$169.95
Original WWI German Ersatz Bayonet – All-Steel Construction – Circa 1914–1918
Offered here is an original World War I-era German Ersatzseitengewehr (Ersatz or substitute bayonet). These simplified bayonets were manufactured during WWI to supplement Germany's supply of conventionally manufactured military bayonets.
This example features distinctive all-steel construction, including a pressed/stamped hollow steel grip, external riveted locking spring, open pommel mounting channel and an unusual open/split or forked muzzle-ring arrangement. The crossguard incorporates a pronounced curved hooked quillon.
The straight steel blade has a long fuller running along both sides and terminates in a spear-style point. Overall length is approximately 16 inches based on the measurements shown in the photographs.
No clearly legible manufacturer, date or military acceptance markings have been located. Due to the large number of variations produced during WWI, I am listing this conservatively as a German WWI Ersatz bayonet rather than assigning a specific collector pattern number.
The bayonet is offered in as-found, unrestored condition. It displays substantial age-related patina, oxidation, surface discoloration, scratches and areas of pitting consistent with its age and use. Please examine the detailed photographs carefully for the exact condition.
Scabbard is not included.
An interesting surviving example of Germany's wartime Ersatz equipment and a desirable piece for collectors of WWI militaria, German bayonets, Mauser accessories and antique military edged weapons.
Please review all photographs carefully, as they are considered an important part of the description and show the actual item you will receive.
Offers and questions always welcome!
