c1900 Antique Silverplate Champagne Wine Caddy Armorial Crest Branch Handles:
$199.95
A striking antique silverplate wine or champagne cooler/caddy, dating to approximately the early 20th century, with an elaborate engraved armorial crest, sculptural branch-form handles and an unusual fitted interior bottle compartment. The front is beautifully engraved with a large coat of arms, complete with shield, helmet, mantling and crest. Rather than simple utilitarian handles, each side is fitted with an organic branch or twig-form handle, giving the piece wonderful sculptural character. Decorative borders finish the upper and lower edges.Inside is an unusual pierced metal partition, creating a fitted compartment for the bottle while allowing ice to surround it. This specialized construction makes the piece particularly interesting compared with the more common open champagne buckets. The underside bears a group of three impressed pseudo-hallmarks, including a crown device and a shield containing the initials “TS.” These appear consistent with silverplate maker/trade marks rather than British sterling assay marks. The specific maker has not been definitively identified, so I have intentionally left it unattributed rather than guessing.Approximate dimensions:9” high × 7” wide × 6” deepPlease note side handles project beyond the body.Beautiful authentic antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear, scratches, tarnish, oxidation and areas of plate wear/patina, particularly to the interior and lower portions, as photographed. I have left the existing patina rather than aggressively polishing the piece. An especially handsome piece of Edwardian-era barware, combining practical champagne service with the grandeur of traditional armorial silver. The engraved crest, branch handles and unusual divided interior make it a wonderful display piece for a home bar, wine cellar or collection of antique hotel, estate and wine-service wares.Circa 1900–1925. Silverplate; maker currently unidentified.
