Up for sale is a hardcover copy of “P.O.W” A Definitive History of the American Prisoner-of-War Experience in Vietnam, 1964–1973 by John G. Hubbell. This is the 1978 McGraw-Hill / Reader's Digest Press co-published edition second printing.A very good look into the years of hell these men endured with courage, ingenuity, honor & sheer will. This book is filled with stories by the men who lived it and endured years of suffering, fear, torture, and solitude. They are of exceptional character and I’m in awe of them.
The book itself has been handled & read by many people so it’s got some wear to it.
There are extensive pencil-written notes, underlines, and markings scattered throughout some of the pages of this book. Some one might have used the book for a project for school maybe. I found the notes & underlined paragraphs interesting. The text remains entirely legible.
This book was previously part of the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County system. It features standard library treatments including an ink property stamp and a handwritten classification number on the title page, as well as an official library property barcode stamp on the copyright page.
It has a dust jacket on it and it’s on there good!
The hinges and binding are structurally intact. Edges are frayed from age & being handled by many people over the years because it’s a very fascinating book !
A solid, complete vintage copy of an incredibly thorough and powerful historical work.
My Dad was a POW for almost 8 years and he’s mentioned in the book several times. Col. Robert (Bob) B. Purcell (Percy).
