18th Century Ca. 1740 Antique Georgian English Brass Candlestick Sexy BaseStanding about 7 inches tall with the base diameter measuring 4+ inches is this brass candlestick of English origin. It is of seamed construction as it should be for this period British sticks... heavy cast brass. The most important identifying feature of the pre-1780 or so brass sticks is the underside of the base. This stick shows fine cold-chiseling and hand lathed finish. That is art!
When you hold this stick, you'll notice immediately how beautifully balanced it is, even if you know nothing about 18th-century brasswork. Set it down, and it stands straight and true. The quality of the workmanship is evident, leaving little doubt that it was crafted by a highly skilled artisan. This is a very fine candlestick, and the shape of this base is sexy in a feminine way, not squarish or stout.
This is a premium brass candlestick in every way. Will make for a fine display!
