1902-1922 US Army Archive William M Leathers WWI Philippines 29th Infantry:
$199.99
Outstanding original U.S. Army military document archive belonging to William Marshall Leathers, documenting approximately two decades of military service from the early 1900s through 1922.
This is not a collection of unrelated military papers. These documents follow one individual soldier through multiple periods of enlistment and honorable discharge, creating an unusually detailed paper trail of an American career soldier during an important period of U.S. military history.
The earliest paperwork dates to 1902 and documents Leathers' service with the U.S. Army 4th Infantry, including recorded service in the Philippine Islands from November 29, 1900 through February 16, 1902.
The archive continues through subsequent enlistments and discharges, eventually documenting Leathers' service with the 29th Infantry during the World War I era. Later records reference overseas service associated with the American Expeditionary Forces and Germany, followed by his continued postwar Army service.
By his final documented discharge in 1922, William Marshall Leathers is identified as a Sergeant, Company M, 29th Infantry, with his discharge issued at Fort Benning, Georgia.
These original documents contain a remarkable amount of information about Leathers' military career, including:
Multiple original U.S. Army honorable discharge and enlistment records spanning approximately 1902–1922
Service in the Philippine Islands
World War I-era / overseas service
Service with multiple U.S. Army units, including the 4th and 29th Infantry
Advancement to the rank of Sergeant
Original military stamps and administrative notations
Signatures of commanding officers
Multiple examples of William M. Leathers' own signature
Physical descriptions, occupations, enlistment information and character evaluations
Marksmanship and military qualification information
Locations and dates associated with his various periods of service
Final 1922 honorable discharge from Fort Benning, Georgia
What makes this collection particularly appealing is its continuity and provenance. Rather than a single isolated discharge certificate, the group preserves a substantial portion of one soldier's military career across roughly two decades—from the Philippine-era U.S. Army through World War I and into the early 1920s.
All documents shown are being sold together as one historical archive and will not be separated.
The documents are more than 100 years old and show expected age-related wear, including toning, staining, fold lines, edge wear, small tears/imperfections and other signs of age and military record keeping/storage. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition. The documents are currently housed in protective sleeves.
An excellent original group for a collector of U.S. Army militaria, Philippine-American War/Philippine Insurrection-era material, World War I militaria, 29th Infantry history, military genealogy, veterans' archives, or original early 20th-century American documents.
A fascinating and remarkably personal record of approximately 20 years in the United States Army, preserved together more than a century later.
