Up for sale is1940 Palestine HAMAAVIR Tel Aviv Bus Pass Photo ID Leather Sleeve Judaica Israel
Original 1940 bus pass issued by HAMAAVIR, the Tel Aviv area bus cooperative of British Mandate Palestine. The pass includes the holder's original photograph, fixed with staples, a red ink stamp, and a handwritten name on the back. It comes with its period brown leather sleeve with a clear window.
The HAMAAVIR company operated in the Tel Aviv area from 1928 to 1945, which makes this a scarce piece of Yishuv-era transport ephemera and Israeliana.
What you get:
- Brown leather sleeve with window (see condition note)
- Original pass printed in Hebrew, dated 1940, priced 600 mils plus 40 mils "Kofer HaYishuv" levy, serial no. 4877
- Original photograph of the pass holder with red stamp
- Reverse: red company emblem, handwritten first and last name, four numbered instructions
Condition: The pass is in good condition for its age. Paper is toned with age spots on the reverse and along the edges, one edge has a small tear, and the staples show light rust. No restoration.
Please note: The stitching along the sides of the leather sleeve has come apart. The sleeve is open and does not hold the pass in place. Stitch holes are intact. The leather itself is well preserved, with signs of use and wear at one end. Please see all photos.
Size: Pass 9.5 x 5 cm (approx. 3.7 x 2 in)
