1943 WWII German Feldpost Letter May 25 Soldier Personal Wartime CorrespondenceOriginal World War II German Feldpost letter dated May 25, 1943, with its original Feldpost cover.
The letter is extensively handwritten in German cursive and contains a long, personal wartime message. The writer, Walter, discusses letters received, his daily circumstances, work/duties, the weather, Sunday, thoughts about the recipient and home, and his hopes of receiving further correspondence.
English Translation:
“My dear [name/nickname]!
I received your dear letter yesterday and was very pleased with it. I was especially glad to hear that you are well. I am also doing well so far.
Today I once again have a little time, so I want to write you a few lines.
[Several words difficult to decipher.] I have already written to you, and I hope that my letters have reached you.
The weather here has become quite good. During the day it is warm, although the evenings are still cooler.
This month I have already written several times. I always wait eagerly for mail from you and am pleased whenever I receive something.
I think very often of you and of home. You can imagine how much I would like to be there again.
On Sunday I had some free time, but there was not very much to do. [Passage partially illegible.] When one has a little peace and quiet, one’s thoughts naturally turn toward home.
I hope that you are all still well. Please write to me again soon and tell me everything that is happening with you.
I cannot tell you very much that is new from here. Everything continues more or less as before.
[Several lines concerning his present circumstances and duties are difficult to decipher with certainty.]
I hope that this letter reaches you in good health. Write again soon when you have time, because I am always very happy to receive your letters.
For today I will close.
Many heartfelt greetings and kisses,
Your Walter.”
Additional Writing in Margin:
The writer added another handwritten message vertically along the left margin. It appears to continue the personal closing and greetings, although portions are too difficult to decipher reliably from the photograph.
Important Translation Note:
This letter is written in German Kurrent/Sütterlin-style cursive. The translation above follows the readable content of the original letter, while unclear words and passages have been identified rather than guessed. This is a historical translation for descriptive purposes and not a certified WWII German Feldpost correspondence
This is much more than an ordinary Feldpost cover—the lengthy surviving letter provides personal insight into the writer’s daily life, correspondence and thoughts of home during WWII. The dated 1943 letter, original envelope and extensive handwritten content make it an appealing piece for collectors of German Feldpost, WWII militaria, wartime letters and military postal history.
