This is a true time-capsule lot from Giles L. Rowlands (SP4/E-4, Armor), who served in the Staff Section, Headquarters Company, 2nd Medium Tank Battalion (Patton), 35th Armor, 2nd Armored Division during the STRAC (Strategic Army Corps) era.
What’s included:
• 1961-62 2nd Armored Division “Hell on Wheels” Pictorial Year Book
Classic teal hardcover with the full-color division patch, STRAC banner, “Hell on Wheels” ribbon, and M60 tank silhouette on the cover. Good or better condition — clean, tight binding, sharp graphics, no major wear except to edges, and stain to front cover. These division-wide yearbooks are highly sought after by 2nd AD and armored collectors.
• “Notice of Return” humorous welcome-home letter (official 2nd Armored Division / Fort Hood letterhead) — classic barracks satire about returning to civilian life after years in the mess hall and motor pool.
• Complete 3-page original Christmas Tree & Decoration SOP
Dated 7 December 1962, Staff Section, 2nd Medium Tank Battalion (Patton), 35th Armor.
This is peak 1960s Army humor:
• Tree must be decorated primarily with empty beer cans tied on with string.
• No civilian lights or ornaments allowed.
• Distribution list includes the Seven Dwarfs at Disneyland.
Extremely rare — I have never seen another copy of this exact memo.
