Up for sale is an incredibly rare, fully documented piece of Cold War history. This is a genuine, pristine deadstock Soviet-era winter Ushanka hat made of premium, deep-black mouton sheepskin.
What makes this specific piece an absolute holy grail for collectors is its 100% complete provenance. It remains exactly as it was purchased nearly 50 years ago, retaining both its original attached factory string-tag and its incredibly rare handwritten retail paper receipt.
The Ushanka (Hat Details):
• Manufacturer: Produced by the elite, award-winning "Belka" (Squirrel) Fur Factory in Slobodskoy, USSR (bearing the factory's iconic circular squirrel logo and the prestigious "Order of Lenin" designation).
• Material: 100% Genuine, premium fine-fleece sheepskin (Овчина тонкорунная). This is high-grade Soviet mouton—naturally thick, ultra-soft, heavily insulated, and weather-resistant, finished to a sleek black luster.
• Quality Grade: Clearly stamped "1 СОРТ" (First Sort/Top Quality Tier).
• Size: Soviet Size 58 (Equates to a modern Western Size Large, approximately 7 ¼ or a 22.8-inch / 58cm head circumference). A highly wearable, desirable size.
• Condition: Excellent, unworn vintage condition. The fur is thick, lustrous, and does not shed. The interior quilted serge lining is immaculate.
The Provenance (Tag & Receipt Details):
• Factory Tag: The factory tag explicitly dates the manufacturing of this hat to October 1978 (Октябрь 1978 г.) under Soviet state quality standard ГОСТ 10325-70. It features the original fixed state price of 12 Rubles, 10 Kopecks.
• Beriozka Store Receipt: Includes the original, fragile handwritten paper purchase receipt dated July 27, 1979 from the legendary, flagship "Beriozka" Store No. 1 (Магазин БЕРЕЗКА № 1).
• Historical Note: Beriozka stores were restricted, high-end retail shops in the USSR. Regular Soviet citizens were barred from entering; they served exclusively foreign diplomats, tourists, and elite officials using highly regulated foreign currency certificates. The receipt shows the price recalculated to 14.19 Foreign-Exchange Rubles and explicitly notes the sale of a "Men's Sheepskin Hat" (Шапка мужская овчинная).
📏 Sizing & Fit Note: The hat is stamped Soviet Size 58, which officially translates to a US Size 7 ¼ (Large / 58 cm). Because vintage authentic sheepskin is thick and naturally plush, it fits true to size but leans snugly. I cannot guarantee fit because everyone is different and it is not clear how things were made in Soviet Russia. The hat therefore is sold As-Is.
What’s Included:
1. Authentic 1978 Soviet Mouton Sheepskin Ushanka Hat
2. Original attached "Belka" factory paper tag
3. Original July 1979 "Beriozka No. 1" handwritten store receipt (will be shipped safely in a protective sleeve)
Whether you are a Cold War historian, a vintage fashion curator looking for authentic archival streetwear, or a wardrobe costumer seeking flawless period accuracy, a complete set with this level of paperwork is a truly rare find.
