Presenting a rare find for the collector of Latin American Masterworks: a heavy, hand-carved pair of solid wood vases from the legendary Taller Moncada in Peru. While the Moncada workshop is world-renowned for its Chulucanas ceramics, these wooden pieces are a rare excursion into high-end woodworking, mimicking the "negative" smoking aesthetic of their pottery on a much more durable and substantial medium.
The Craftsmanship:
• Material: Solid, high-density Peruvian hardwood. These pieces have a significant, satisfying weight ("heft") that distinguishes them from cheap souvenir wood-turnings.
• Artistry: Hand-turned on a lathe and then hand-painted with the bold, sgraffito-style floral motifs characteristic of the Piura region.
• Finish: Finished with a deep, lustrous lacquer that highlights the vibrant pigments and protects the wood grain.
• Signature: Each piece is hand-signed on the base: "Taller Moncada - Made in Peru - Chulucanas.
