📌 DESCRIPTION
Representing the operational heritage of 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), this oversized challenge coin captures the identity, structure, and symbolism of one of the U.S. Army’s most recognizable Special Forces battalions through an exceptionally detailed large-format design. Featuring extensive Green Beret iconography and battalion-specific artwork, it offers outstanding display presence and strong appeal for collectors of Special Forces challenge coins and military memorabilia.
The obverse showcases the official U.S. Army Special Forces Regimental Crest with the legendary “De Oppresso Liber” (“To Liberate the Oppressed”) motto, surrounded by individual Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) emblems representing teams 3320, 3321, 3323, 3324, and 3325. Together, these design elements create a striking tribute to the battalion’s operational structure, heritage, and identity.
The reverse centers on the African continent while incorporating the iconic Special Forces, Ranger, and Airborne qualification tabs above the Special Forces spearhead insignia. Also featured are the rank insignia of a Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3), Major (O-4), and First Sergeant (1SG), along with the Zombie 20 designation, tribal-inspired border artwork, skull motifs, and the enduring De Oppresso Liber motto. These elements combine to create a highly detailed Special Forces challenge coin with exceptional collector appeal.
Battalion-specific Special Forces challenge coins generally appear less frequently than broader group-level designs, giving pieces like this added appeal for collectors focused on unit history and ODA-related memorabilia. Examples are seldom encountered on the secondary market, making battalion-specific pieces like this increasingly difficult for collectors to locate.
