A Complex Geological Timeline
Welcome to KeepsCache. Up for consideration is a highly complex, 52-gram miniature display specimen that combines ancient fossil replacement with distinct metallic mineralization.
The Mineral & Fossil Assemblage
This single 1.75-inch specimen features three distinct geological zones:
- The Agatized Fossil: The polished face reveals the tight, intricate, concentric banding of a silicified Stromatolite (ancient blue-green algae mounds). The biological structure has been completely replaced by high-grade, lace-like banded agate.
- The Druzy Vug: At the very center of the stromatolite banding is an open vug (cavity) lined entirely with micro-crystalline, sparkling Druzy Quartz.
- The Pseudomorph Crust: Attached to the exterior of the agate is a heavy, metallic cluster of Marcasite that is in the active process of pseudomorphing into Hematite. The iron sulfide is essentially being "eaten" and replaced by iron oxide, leaving a rugged, textured metallic crust that contrasts beautifully against the smooth, delicate agate rings.
This is a fantastic, highly aesthetic reference piece for collectors who appreciate complex, multi-mineral environments and fossil replacements in a compact, miniature display size.
