Antique 1903 Photo Child in Early Toy Automobile Pedal Car 6x8 Louis Miller Description

Wonderful original antique photograph dated 1903, showing a young child posed outdoors in an elaborate early toy automobile.

The mounted photograph measures approximately 6" x 8" overall.

The child is seated in an unusually detailed miniature automobile featuring four wire-spoke wheels, a steering tiller/lever, raised seat, boxlike front body and a prominent simulated headlamp assembly. The toy appears to imitate the appearance of the earliest full-size automobiles of the turn-of-the-century period.

The reverse has an old handwritten “1903” in the upper corner. It is also inscribed with the child's name, which appears to begin “Louis” and end “Miller.” The middle portion of the name is difficult to decipher and has therefore not been positively identified.

The photograph is mounted on dark brown card stock with an embossed decorative border.

Condition

The photograph itself remains quite clear with excellent detail and contrast, along with scattered age-related marks, spotting and light surface wear. The mounting card has substantial edge and corner damage, including large losses at the upper left and lower left, additional edge losses, creases/cracks and general wear. The reverse has old adhesive/tape residue and surface wear. Please examine photographs carefully for exact condition.
