Reynolds Hiram Council No. 45 R. & S.M. New Castle, Lawrence County, PA Up for sale is a spectacular, completely unique piece of late 19th-century Pennsylvania political and Masonic history. This solid gold presentation collar or breast jewel features incredible hand-wrought craftsmanship and deep, fully traceable historical provenance custom-engraved on the reverse. [1] HISTORICAL PROVENANCE & ENGRAVING: The reverse side features exceptionally crisp, hand-bright-cut script engraving: Hiram Council No. 45 R. & S.M. New Castle, Pa. Walter S. Reynolds COMPREHENSIVE BIOGRAPHY OF THE OWNER: The original owner, Walter S. Reynolds (December 24, 1874 June 15, 1937), was one of the most prominent legal and civic figures in western Pennsylvania during the turn of the century. His life spans several notable locations and milestones across the state: [1] Born: Born in Neshannock Township, Lawrence County, PA. [1] Education: Earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Grove City College in Grove City, PA (Class of 1893). [1] Military Service: A veteran of the Spanish-American War, he served honorably in Company E of the 15th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry from 1898 to 1899 Legal Career: Admitted to the bar in 1896, he spent his entire life practicing law in New Castle, PA. He served as the elected solicitor for the borough of South New Castle, PA. Political Office: A powerhouse in the regional Republican party, he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in Harrisburg, PA, serving three consecutive terms in the 1905, 1907, and 1909 terms. Civic Leadership: He served on the State Republican Committee, ran a high-profile campaign for Mayor of New Castle in 1910, and later launched a U.S. Congressional campaign in 1924. Resting Place: Upon his passing in 1937, he was interred at Oak Park Cemetery in New Castle, PA.
