Antique Art Nouveau jewelry casket with a heavy grape-and-vine design, in gilt metal (often called gilded brass or ormolu).- Deeply raised grape clusters, grape leaves and tendrils on the lid and all sides- Scrolled Art Nouveau shape with a hinged, domed lid, standing on four small feet- Lid is lined with pink padding and a twisted rope trim- Base is marked with a Trade Mark J.B. oval stamp and model number 192, consistent with Jennings Brothers of Bridgeport, CT (early 1900s)- Approx. 7.5 in. long (see tape measure photo)
Condition: Antique with honest age. The gilt finish shows wear, darkening and green verdigris in the recessed areas, which many collectors like. The hinged lid opens and closes. The pink lid lining is worn and faded, and the loose cotton in the base is not original. No major breaks or damage seen. Please see all photos, as they are part of the description.
