Antique Connecticut Pewter Teapot Morris Benham Style 1840s With NYT Reference:
$74.00
This is a beautiful mid-19th-century American pewter teapot showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the Connecticut metalworking boom. This listing includes an original, vintage Saturday, May 24, 1969 clipping from The New York Times detailing a major exhibition of Connecticut pewter at the New Haven Colony Historical Society. While your teapot is a distinct, more rounded globular variant than the flattened melon-shaped model pictured in the article, it shares striking design characteristics, regional manufacturing techniques, and stylistic similarities with the pieces highlighted from the Morris Benham and International Silver Company collections.Design and Architectural DetailsThe teapot showcases a beautiful blend of industrial craftsmanship and mid-19th-century revival movements. It features a full, rounded body resting on a flared pedestal foot. The distinct silhouette is completed by a striking, elongated gothic-dome lid, an elegantly curved pouring spout, and an ornate, heavy scroll-style handle.Condition ReportThe original hinge is fully intact and operates smoothly. The top metal collar near the lid finial shows a slight structural bend from use. The tip of the pouring spout shows minor wear and light, localized oxidation at the mouth openings. The lower scroll curve of the hollow-cast handle features an original manufacturing vent hole displaying natural, age-appropriate corrosion wear along its circular perimeter. The body shows a scattering of small surface dings and light scuffs. At some point, a previous owner added green felt feet to the underside of the base to protect display surfaces. These have been left intact. Please review all high-resolution photographs to inspect these specific areas closely.Important Metalware Notice
