Antique EAPG “Cardinal Bird” or “Blue Bird” Goblet Clear Glass c. 1870s:
$49.95
This goblet is late 19th-century Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) in the highly collectible "Cardinal Bird" pattern (also known alternatively by collectors as "Blue Jay"). I believe that it is a true antique piece dating to circa 1875. It is traditionally attributed to the Ohio Flint Glass Co., but the EAPG society says that Ohio Glass did not exist before 1891-92 so it lists the maker as unknown. It features crisp, beautifully detailed 3D imagery pressed into the glass bowl. One side depicts a beautifully feathered bird perched on a branch surrounded by foliage and berries. The reverse side features the bird tilted downward, looking at a small worm on a leaf.Condition: Excellent antique condition. The clear glass is bright, and the mold lines and stippling details are incredibly sharp and distinct. No major chips or cracks. (Note: As is typical with Victorian-era pressed glass, minor inherent manufacturing features like tiny air bubbles or straw marks may be present under close inspection.)Measurements: Approximately 5 3/4" tall with a 3 1/8" rim diameter. EAPGS.net has pictures of large and small goblets. At 5 3/4” tall, this one is the smaller size. Please review all photos carefully as they serve as the primary description of the item's condition. Ships securely packed with premium materials to ensure safe arrival. This goblet is from the collection of Gene Thornton, Huntsville, Alabama. My mother in law, Gene, collected patterned glass in the late 1960s until late 1970s. She spent many happy hours going through antique classified ads (we have come a long way). She enjoyed sharing her knowledge and often spoke at women’s groups all over north Alabama. We are downsizing and therefore selling the pieces. This is only one of many. Please check my other listings. Check often because I will be listing more items over the next few weeks. If you purchase more than one piece at the same time, text me so that I can combine them and save you postage. Gene kept good records of what she bought except for a few odd pieces. I have used these records, plus ChatGPT (with caution), plus my own research to establish pattern, dates and pricing.
Sold as is. I have done my best to describe the item accurately, and to give an honest opinion. I suggest you look at the pictures, and read the descriptions to determine if the item is what you want. If you are still unsure, please send questions before you buy. Related Items:
