Antique German Wedding Blessing Wood Plaque Hermann van der Woude Oberstein:
$199.99
Antique German marriage/wedding blessing plaque, approximately 10 x 20 inches overall.
The shaped wooden plaque features decorative German script with painted floral accents and a traditional blessing celebrating a couple joined together in love and walking through life hand in hand.
The front bears a traditional German-language wedding or marriage blessing, roughly translating to:
“Forever united by love’s bond, you now go through life hand in hand. May you look ahead with happiness, and may God’s kindness protect your good fortune.”
The reverse retains an excellent original retailer/maker label for Herm. v.d. Woude, Oberstein, identifying the firm as a bookseller, printer, bookbinder and framing establishment. An old typed English translation of the German sentiment is also affixed to the reverse.
The dark beveled wood surround and warm amber center give the piece a strong early-20th-century Arts & Crafts / folk-art appearance.
Original hanging wire remains present, with later green tape reinforcement visible.
Vintage condition with age-related surface wear, small marks and wear to the wood and hanging hardware. Please review photographs closely for condition.
Approximate dimensions: 20 x 10 inches.
