Antique Japanese Eggshell Porcelain Teacup Saucer Set Kutani Satsuma Karako 8pc:
$99.95
Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible 8-piece lot of authentic antique Japanese export eggshell porcelain. Dating from the late Meiji to early Taisho period (circa 1900–1920s), this gorgeous collection is meticulously hand-painted in a vibrant Kutani palette with classic Satsuma themes.
The artwork features exquisite depictions of Karako (traditional Chinese-style children), which traditionally symbolize joy, innocence, and prosperity. The scenes are framed by intricate iron-red and gold geometric diaper patterns and elevated by raised gold dot moriage accents, giving the exteriors a wonderful tactile texture. The porcelain walls are paper-thin and display beautiful translucency when held to a light source.
WHAT IS INCLUDED:
- Three (3) Hand-Painted Eggshell Teacups
- Five (5) Matching Hand-Painted Saucers (Includes 2 extra replacement or display saucers)
DIMENSIONS:
- Teacups: 3.75" Diameter x 2" Tall
- Saucers: 5.25" Diameter
MARKINGS & AUTHENTICITY:
- Teacups: Each cup features the authentic hand-painted "サツマ" (Satsuma) workshop mark in gold katakana lettering within a distinctive red cartouche on the base.
- Saucers: All five saucers are completely unmarked on the underside, which is historically accurate for genuine turn-of-the-century export workshops that focused signatures entirely on the focal cups.
CONDITION REPORT:
- Saucers: All 5 saucers are in excellent antique condition with vibrant paint, intact gold gilding, and zero chips, cracks, or flea bites.
- Teacups: Two (2) cups are in excellent antique condition, perfect for display. One (1) cup features a clean, tight hairline crack along the interior wall running down toward the base (see close-up photos).
CARE & HANDLING NOTE:
Due to the extreme fragility of antique eggshell porcelain, this collection is sold strictly for decorative cabinet display. Hand-wash or wipe clean with a dry microfiber cloth only; do not expose to hot liquids or submerge in water.
We pack with extreme care using professional materials (bubble wrap, sturdy double-boxing) to ensure this delicate set arrives safely at your doorstep. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Sold as-is.
